The mission statement for St. Paul Lutheran School is "St. Paul Lutheran School is committed to engaging students with a comprehensive education, grounded in God's Word, to prepare them for a full life in Christ."
This was evident from the outset when St. Paul's first classes were held in Otto Petzold's farmhouse in Arbela Township. This commitment continued to be demonstrated throughout the history of St. Paul. When the need of an additional school building was realized 1928, this zeal to provide for a Christian education was dramatically demonstrated. In his book, God's Love - Ever Constant -- The Story of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rudy Petzold writes, "Under the direction of the congregation's trustees, Hahn Movers of Sebewaing were engaged to do the work of moving the school, with members of the parish providing labor. The school was raised and placed on giant skids. Round logs were laid in front of the building and greased. The movers then used a truck with a winch to move the school forward over the greased logs. The logs were then passed from the rear of the school back to the front and the operation was repeated. So, yard by yard, first across open fields and then finally down West Millington Road, members moved their new school in 16-below —zero temperatures." Now that's passion.
This passion continued to be demonstrated as the need to build the additions of classrooms, a kitchen, parish hall, activity center. The passion of these people of faith recognized the need for the intentional training of God's children for life-long discipleship through Lutheran Christian education, which includes a strong, academic environment. This passion is rooted in our school's theme verse, "Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
From the single room schoolhouse in 1905 to our modern facility today, the mission is the same. St. Paul Lutheran School is "Committed to Christ". Committed to share Jesus' amazing love with our students, families and community. Committed to provide excellent academic preparation for the children we serve. Thanks be to God for providing faithful individuals, who by their support and prayers, have ensured this mission to continue and flourish.
